Quilt Retreat 2014

Buggy Barn Hearts

This one is 16 blocks--53 1/2 X 73 1/2 inches with the borders. For this one you will need 6 different fabrics of three colors each--6 red, 6 pink, 6 ivory.

This is one I did last year....just showing you a different colorway.........I will try to get a picture of the one Michelle did last year. I really like it too!

When I get the borders added it will be 63 X 88. It is 25 blocks. You will need 9 different fat quarters of 3 different colors each--9 brown, 9 pink, 9 ivory (the idea here is scrappy--no two fabrics exactly the same)

Now...........of course you can choose any three colors you would like. Usually you will want a dark, a medium, and a light. I just made one with light blue, brown and ivory/light tan (see above). And I have the fabric to make one in grey, black and yellow..............a sample/demo for the retreat.

Scrappy Star or Snowball

For this quilt you can use whatever fabric you would like..........if you have bits and pieces of this and that or something more planned and uniform......you can do either. I have planned two different sizes for you:

54 x 66 inches - 6 inch blocks - you will need 2 1/2 yards total of the colored scraps and 2 5/8 yards for the background fabric.

63 x 91 inches (a good twin size) - 7 inch blocks - you will need 3 yards total of the colored scraps and 3 3/8 yards for the background fabric. If you have questions please call me or email me......

This is a quilt that has an almost infinite number of variations--simple variations! We can make the blocks any size we want, change the number of blocks, add a border or two........I just like the way it looked in this picture and you can totally finish either of these quilt tops in the time we have. FUN!!! FUN!!!! Let me know what you want to do! You could have the cutting done for this quilt before arriving if you would like.

Cutting for 6 inch blocks: from the background fabric cut 67 6 1/2 inch squares
from the scraps you will need 32 6 1/2 inch squares and 160 2 1/2 inch squares

Cutting for 7 inch blocks: from the background fabric cut 78 7 1/2 inch squares
from the scraps you will need 39 7 1/2 inch squares and 192 2 3/4 inch squares

To prep for the retreat:
I want you to have your fabrics washed, if you choose to wash them first. I always wash my fabrics first. You can always lightly starch them if you want them crisp. I have a friend who never washes her fabrics and always washes her quilt in cold water and lays it out to dry. You choose...........

For the heart quilt, iron your fat quarters and have them stacked in three stacks in like colors.

I'm excited for this!!!!!

We are hoping that you will want to stay at Irene's. We have meals planned and will then ask for each of you to take a turn getting it ready and then cleaning up.............also.........we would like each of you to bring a "treat". It can be anything you consider a "treat".............express your personality!

Staying at Irene's:
Bring something to sleep on--a foam pad and a blanket or sleeping bag.........she has plenty of floor space while beds are a little scarce............I hope this will work for you............Michelle and Paul will be living there.......so we will have "sleep overflow" at Grandma's as needed.

What to bring....
sewing machine--with a couple of extra bobbins
sewing machine needles--I like Universal size 70 to 80
thread--a medium grey or taupe--you don't need one to match every color in your quilt
scissors
seam ripper
pins
rotary cutter and mat--if you have one...........if not, we will have enough to share
acrylic rulers--bring what you have--the 6 1/2 to 8 1/2 by 24 inches--it's the length that is critcal
if you have a square one 6 1/2 inches or larger, bring that too

Call or email or comment here if you have questions
